Is the threat of phishing something to be concerned about?

Is the threat of phishing truly something to be concerned about?

It only takes 1% of the organization to neglect to flag and report phishing to cause the whole organization to suffer potentially.

Recently, a cybercriminal persistently bombarded Reddit employees with messages directing them to fake websites mimicking the internal portal used by Reddit workers for their tasks. Unfortunately, one employee fell prey to the deception due to the perpetrator’s persistence and the convincing resemblance of the bogus website.

Unfortunately, the victim unknowingly gave away their login credentials and multi-factor authentication tokens upon logging in. This one mistake proved costly, as the attacker was able to gain access to confidential files, snippets of code, and even some internal business systems. It all stemmed from a single instance where the phishing scam was not recognized for what it truly was.!

It is essential to be constantly vigilant about security, as demonstrated by this example. Security awareness is a year-round, round-the-clock responsibility.

In 2023, several major websites have already experienced significant breaches. With the increasing danger of cyber threats, companies of all sizes are at risk of being targeted.

If you receive a notification that your data has been compromised or potentially exposed in a breach, you must take prompt action to secure your accounts again and keep a close eye on any suspicious activity on your credit, systems, and profiles.

In the event of a worst-case scenario, rest assured that Commonwealth Sentinel is available to provide assistance. We can also help with employee training to help prevent worst-case scenarios. Learn more by contacting us at (502)-320-9885.
