If Cyber Security isn’t a product, then what exactly is it? It’s many things, actually.
Cyber Security is a PROCESS. The process consists of vulnerability assessments to determine where you need to be protected (in your networks, computers, firewalls, etc.); implementation of security tools (including policies and procedures); training personnel; conducting penetration tests; and monitoring and responding to threats.
Cyber Security is a LIVING ORGANISM. The process of conducting assessments and then revising policies, adding new defenses, and continual training is the evolving nature of improving cyber security to keep pace with the increasing threats.
It is a PARTNERSHIP between the team leading the efforts to implement the process (the cyber security team) and the IT team, management, and staff who are part of the process.
Cyber Security then becomes a STATE OF MIND. It is a mindset that everyone in the organization adopts in their roles. As they use technology tools, the security of those tools becomes second nature.
Therefore, the ultimate goal is that Cyber Security becomes a CULTURE in which everyone in your organization accepts that they are responsible for data security and operations protection.
The moral of the story is “Cyber Security is not a destination…Cyber Security is a Journey!”
