The Preparedness without Paranoia 501(c)3 has created a mascot that children can relate to and learn from as they navigate the new issues during the pandemic. Lucky® the Preparedness Dog shares his story in 4 books.
The first book talks about the new skills of social distancing, washing hands and wearing face masks.
The second book is about how school is different during a pandemic.
In the third book, as many adults have said, life will not be normal but a new normal. The new habits we have learned during the pandemic must be applied in our old routines.
In the fourth book, children learn about the very important roles that first responders have played in helping to keep us safe.
The message throughout these books is that planning for awareness, preparedness, response and recovery help to be knowledgeable and respond without being fearful.
At a time when adults are struggling with how to deal with the new world, we need to remember that our children too fear what they don’t understand. These excellent books speak to them in a fun and reassuring way to help them feel comfortable with the changing world.
