Every day it seems that more and more of our daily lives are automated via technology. Remember watching “The Jetsons” and being envious of all the cool technology they had? We may not be living in houses in the air and traveling in space cars (yet) but many of the animated fictional inventions they had are a reality today.
All of these comprise “The Internet of Things” or IoT. In his book on this topic, Samuel Greengard provides an overview of what it is and how it developed into part of our lexicon. He discusses how it can and will impact our lives (positive and negative) and provides a glimpse into what we can expect. Though written in 2015, it provides a good basis for what IoT is.
As we become more dependent on technology, we must be careful not to lose our ability to be self-sufficient.
