Sheri, the magnificent here.
Inspired by Johnny Carson’s, “Carnac the Magnificent,” I want to try my hand at making predictions.
Here we go… today’s magical, mystical answer is… 1,2,3,4,5,6
What is at least one of your passwords?
That may sound funny unless you are one of the millions who use the same password! 1,2,3,4,5,6 is the most used password in the world.
If you are feeling smart because you use 1,2,3,4,5,6… 7,8,9 as your password… don’t!
That is the second most used password in the world.
Using strong passwords is important for your whole organization.
Why should you care if someone else isn’t using strong passwords?
If anyone in your organization uses a password like 1,2,3,4,5,6, it can expose not only their information but it can also give cyber criminals access to your organization’s data and… yours!
Strong passwords are everyone’s concern. Organizations, large and small, should have password policies.
How do you create a strong password?
Passwords should be a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special symbols, such as a percent sign, dollar sign, or exclamation point.
Stay away from using easily guessable information like names, birthdays, and common words… like password… that’s the fourth most used password… by the way.
Even though some sites may only ask for 6 or 8 characters as a minimum, 20 characters or more is best, and never reuse passwords!
So, how are you going to remember all these passwords?
It would be best if you used a password manager. Many password managers include a random password generator, so you don’t have to think up big, long passwords.
You don’t need magic to protect your organization, but you do need a password policy.
Hmmmm… that was fun. I’m going to do one more…
The magical, mystical answer is….
Yes
