Are you a Taylor Swift fan? Maybe you have little ones who love Disney on Ice? Perhaps your dream ticket is the Copa America 2024 or the Super Bowl 2025? Whatever your live entertainment preference is, you have likely dealt with Ticketmaster. You have probably cursed their high prices and hidden fees. Well, now you have another reason to hate the ticketing behemoth.
In a May 20 security filing, Ticketmaster’s owner Live Nation admitted that there was “unauthorized activity within a third-party cloud database environment containing Company data.” The hacking group Shiny Hunters is claiming that they obtained user data, including names, addresses, phone numbers, as well as order details and credit card information for 560 million users. There are already reports that this data is being sold on the dark web.
“We are working to mitigate risk to our users and the company, and have notified and are cooperating with law enforcement,” Live Nation said. “As appropriate, we are also notifying regulatory authorities and users about unauthorized access to personal information.”
As the investigation into this breach continues, it’s important to note that Live Nation/Ticketmaster has not yet reached out to individual customers whose data was compromised.
If you’re a Ticketmaster user, this breach could potentially affect you. As with any data breach, it’s crucial to take immediate action. Change your password, monitor your bank and credit card statements for any suspicious activity, and be extra cautious with your phone calls and emails to avoid falling victim to scams. Your vigilance is key.
While this may become a hassle for Ticketmaster customers, what would you do if your organization’s customer data were compromised? In addition to the expense of incident response and recovery, consider the damage to your reputation and potential lawsuits. There’s a good reason that over 60% of small and medium-sized organizations that fall victim to cyber crime go out of business in less than a year.
