Full disclosure, Bruce McCully is a friend and colleague. I first met Bruce when I worked for a small start-up tech company. His company, Dynamic Edge, did the programming for our product. His attention to detail, intelligence, dedication to working with the client, and delivering a world-class product – not to mention his affable nature and quick sense of humor – led me to respect him and sealed us as life-long friends.
That being said, I value his opinion, advice and counsel on all things cyber.
Our careers have seemed to parallel over the years but now more than ever.
In his latest book, “Level Up”, Bruce talks to Managed Service Providers (MSP’s) about the next step they should take in providing world-class service to their clients – cyber security. In recent months, many cyber attacks have come from malicious actors attacking MSP’s because the attack then cascades to their clients. Therefore, an attack on one MSP can affect several (even hundreds) other companies who use that MSP to manage their Information Technology (IT).
The latest trend toward cyber security means that MSP’s have to learn the many ins and outs of security including within their own organization, in the IT tools they use for their clients, and in their testing to ensure malicious actors cannot get in.
Cyber security is not just another business line. It is a change in culture and must be incorporated into all facets of the MSP – just as it should be in all organizations.
